Even though we weathered rain delays for over two hours, this year’s 4th annual Little Sisters Day at the Mud Hens was a great event that broke attendance expectations. On a very hot and rainy Thursday evening, we were joined by 250 friends and family members of the Residents and Sisters at Fifth Third Field, home of the Toledo Mud Hens, for some great food, fun and very wet baseball.
Our guests enjoyed a wonderful picnic barbeque, shared some great fellowship, and stayed to watch the Mud Hens battle it out with the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. Since the game went until 1am Friday morning, many of our Residents heard about the outcome of the game the next day. The Mud Hens battled hard, but ultimately lost 7-3.
Before the game began, the Little Sisters were allowed on to the field for a quick photo-op. Mother Cecilia, visited with some of the players gave them a very unique souvenir — a one of a kind “Little Sisters baseball card.” The players immediately said “Hey, would you autograph your card Sister?” For a brief moment, Mother was a big league star!
After the first rain delay, Mother Cecilia was introduced on the field as the “Manager for the Day”! She went to home plate and exchanged the starting lineup for the Mud Hens with the opposing team manager and umpires. She was heard telling the officials and managers “let’s have a good clean game, no bad language and no spitting.”
This was a wonderful event that brought many smiles to the faces of our Residents. Many thanks go out from the Little Sisters to the wonderful sponsors and guests of this very special event. All proceeds from the evening went to help support the Residents of our home.
