Recently throughout this Lenten Season the Toledo area Catholic High Schools have joined together to do service projects for the Little Sisters of the Poor. Each week during Lent the high schools have taken turns doing collections of needed items for the Residents of the Sacred Heart Home. Every Friday afternoon for the past 4 weeks the Sisters have done a pickup of these donated items at each of the high schools. The students have generously donated such items as soaps, housekeeping supplies, personal toiletries, kleenex, etc. for the Residents. The Sisters have made it a point to thank the students in person and speak with them about their Mission of Serving the Elderly Poor.
Quite recently one of these collection pickups was made even more special as one of the Residents went along. Anna Rinkowski aged 89, a proud member of the class of 1940, returned to her alma mater Central Catholic High School. Anna and Sr. Margaret were introduced to the entire student body at an assembly. They thanked the students for the Lenten collection and spoke about the need for young people to do service for others. As the photos show, this was a great way to make the elderly happy and invite others into the Mission of the Little Sisters of the Poor.
