Yesterday we celebrated a wonderful St. Valentine’s Day party at the Home and had some unique and talented entertainment.
Rev. Kent Kaufman, pastor of All Saints Church in Rossford, Ohio and Miss Virginia Starr, retired Bowling Green State University Professor of Voice performed for our Residents a wonderful “Dinner Show.”
The Residents had their noon meal in the auditorium and were entertained by Fr. Kent, who played our newly refurbished baby Grand Piano. He entertained us with a medley of favorite love songs and St. Valentine Day themed music. Virginia sang a wonderful rendition of “Summertime,” a Gershwin tune from “Porgy & Bess.” Also, joining Fr. Kent was Deacon Gerald Galernik and Mrs. Ann Heban, who sang some favorite songs for the Residents. Ann’s grandmother, Mary Zigray, who is a 101 years young is one of our Residents.
The Residents truly enjoyed this nice break from their regular dinner routine and were heard singing along and tapping their feet to the music. Fr. Kent’s fingers “tickled the ivories” and he shared generously his musical talents. Virginia’s singing was top notch and really wowed the crowd. Lastly, Fr. Kent harnessed up his accordion and finished with a few Polish polkas and Italian songs which brought back wonderful memories for the Residents.
Many thanks to Fr. Kent, Virginia, Deacon Gerry and Ann for making this St. Valentine’s Day so special for our Residents.
