On Pentecost Sunday one of our Residents, Nick Nieves, was received into the Catholic Church and received the sacraments of baptism and confirmation. Nick is a native of Puerto Rico and first came to our home a few years ago as a member of our Senior Center. After coming to the home almost daily and participating in many of our activities, Nick inquired into becoming a full time Resident. Last year he became a Resident in our assisted living area.
Growing up in Puerto Rico and living here in the United States, Nick always went to church, but through discussions with Fr. Joe Weigman, chaplain of our home, it became clear Nick did not know if he was ever baptized or not. So after some conversations on the sacraments, Nick finally was initiated into the Catholic faith on Pentecost Sunday. His daughter is pictured with him as he receives the sacraments.
Nick truly enjoys being a Resident at the Sacred Heart Home and has made many new friends. He is also an accomplished baker and shares his talent making delicious breads, cookies, and cakes for the other Residents, Sisters and staff. We welcome Nick into the Catholic faith and congratulate him on receiving the sacraments!
