The recent 100+ degree heat had a real affect on our Residents, with many of them weathering the hot summer days by staying indoors. Usually we have many outside outings and activities planned this time of year, but with the record heat wave we moved all Resident events indoors and closely watched the condition of our Residents. We even setup hydration stations in both of our nursing areas and made sure our Residents stayed cool and well hydrated.
Yet, not only did we provide excellent care for our Residents, we also looked after our Senior Center members. These Senior Center participants are elderly people who live in their own homes and come each day to our home to participate in activities, meals and liturgy. We tried hard to stay in touch with these Seniors by telephone and visits to their homes during the recent heat wave. This extra attention on the part of our activities department was a welcome relief to these seniors and helped exemplify the spirit of caring for the elderly passed on from St. Jeanne Jugan.
