“Pride in Foodservice Week,” a national ANFP (Association of Nutrition and Food Service Professionals) celebration is held the first week in February. Our Residents, families, employees, and friends of the Sacred Heart Home anticipate this week each year. What will the theme be? What kind of snacks and nutrition literature will be in our cloister area for all to enjoy, along with displays featuring our foodservice employees? What games and contests with prizes can I participate in? What special events, foods, and meals will we enjoy this week? Our food service staff takes joy in turning a boring, cold, blustery week into a warm, fun, smile-filled week for all.
This year the theme is “Cars.” How do cars connect to food service? Think back to when the automobile began to make us more mobile, and all the diners and fast food restaurants began to spring up along the roadways. This is why we go back in time and kick off the week with our auditorium decorated as a 50’s diner, providing a diner menu and a sock hop. Our own DJ, Ken Erwin, will play 50’s music and host karaoke. The week is filled with car trivia contests each day, a car parts word search, car races, car songs contest, and of course, a good old afternoon of BINGO with our food service staff.
The grand finale of this week is a feast of many different food items for all to sample at noon on Friday, sponsored by Gordon Foods. We highlight our Toledo “Jeep” at this event, and its role in World War II, making liberty and peace possible for so many.
A big thanks goes out to our food service department for providing this special week, and the great job they do every day providing tasty, nutritious meals!
