Pope Francis’s recent visit to the United States was followed closely here at our Home. One of our Sisters, Sr. Rachael, even made up a wonderful display for the Pope’s visit, which hi-lited all the places and people he would visit on his schedule. Each day our Residents would watch their televisions in anticipation of a speech from the Pope or his travels through Washington, DC, New York City, or Philadelphia. They loved seeing the Pope as his motorcade would make its way through the streets lined with thousands of people, all waiting to get a glimpse of the Holy Father. Especially meaningful for our Residents was watching the Masses celebrated each day in some of our nation’s most beautiful Basilicas, Cathedrals, and Churches.
A high point of the Popes trip in our country was his unscheduled visit to the Home of the Little Sisters in Washington, DC. Pope Francis visited the Jeanne Jugan Residence and met privately with the Sisters, Novices, and future Postulant present for about 15 minutes. He greeted each Sister and then prayed together with them the Hail Mary. During the week many faithful Catholics and those of other religions were moved and inspired by Pope Francis’s humble message of love and peace.
