Little Sisters Day at the Mud Hens – August 25, 2011
Last evening on a beautiful late summer night the Sacred Heart Home hosted their 3rd annual Little Sisters Day at the Mud Hens. Close to 150 friends and family of the Residents and Sisters gathered in “The Nest” at Fifth Third Field, home of the Toledo Mud Hens, for some good fellowship and fun. Everyone enjoyed a tasty picnic barbeque, visited with team mascots Muddy & Muddonna and then stayed to watch the Mud Hens battle it out with the Buffalo Bisons in a four hour long game.
Before the game started, Sr. Cecilia Mary, superior of the Home, was introduced on the field as the “Manager for the Day”! Both Srs. Cecilia and Margaret went to home plate and exchanged the starting lineup for the Mud Hens with the opposing team manager and umpires. Sr. Cecilia was heard telling the officials and managers “now let’s have a good clean game, no foul language and no spitting”. The opposing team manager on seeing the two sisters beside the Mud Hens manager, Phil Nevin, commented “I don’t have a chance with those nuns on your team”. Evidently, he was right as the Hens went on to beat the Bisons with a 6-1 victory!
This was a wonderful event that brought many smiles to the faces of our Residents, as well as their families and friends. Many thanks from the Little Sisters go out to the wonderful sponsors and underwriters of this very special event. All proceeds from the evening went to help support the Residents of the Sacred Heart Home of the Little Sisters of the Poor located in Oregon, Ohio.
