We are so excited that Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio was chosen as the Supreme Pontiff and chose the name Pope Francis. He becomes the first Pope chosen from the “New World”, the first Jesuit Pontiff, and the first Latino. Truly the Holy Spirit has guided the Cardinals in Conclave to make this historic election.
Pope Francis comes from a country where we have a strong presence with two thriving Homes in Argentina, as well as Homes in nearby Chile, Columbia and Peru. We are delighted that his installation is on the Feast of St. Joseph, our Guardian and protector.
Already we see that he will be a humble guardian of the Church and will lead us to a greater simplicity of poverty in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi. He will lead us to a stronger evangelization. His ecumenical spirit is also noteworthy. Our prayers are with him.
