Many of our Residents are loyal sports fans and follow many of the major league teams in baseball. Living here in the Toledo area we are many times split in our fan base loyalty between the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Indians. So when an opportunity presented itself for several of our Residents, assisted by volunteers and family members, to attend an Indians vs. Tigers game in Detroit, many jumped at the chance to go.
The Residents arrived at Comerica Park in Detroit on a beautiful sunny Sunday and got settled into their seats to watch a classic matchup of two great rival teams. The first 3 innings saw little action as neither team was able to score, but in the 4th inning the Tigers got a home run and took the lead. Then in the 5th inning the Indians responded by driving in a run to even the score. In the next inning the Indians scored 2 runs while the Tigers came back with one of their own, bringing the score to 3-2. Residents who were Indians fans were cheering hard for their team. Then in the 7th and 8th innings the Tigers scored again twice, bringing the score back in their favor 3 to 6, making are Tigers fans in the group very excited. In the 9th inning the Indians rallied hard, but could only score one run, before being shut down by the Tigers. Final game score was Indians 4, Tigers 6. This end of the season baseball game effectively ended the Indians chance at a post season appearance, while advancing the Tigers to 1st place in their Central American League division.
Our Residents, volunteers, and Sisters loved going to the game, watching the great baseball action, and seeing the beautiful Comerica stadium. A big Thank You goes out to our activities department for putting this event together and to the families of the Residents participating, who bought the tickets.
