On a perfect Friday night for a football game, the Little Sisters were recognized by Central Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio as an outstanding charity in our local community. Central Catholic High School is the largest Catholic high school in our Diocese and they graciously invited the Little Sisters and some of our Residents to attend their home opener Friday night football game against Springfield High School.
The Sisters and Residents arrived early and joined the enthusiastic tailgaters who gathered in the Central Catholic parking lots for some pre-game partying. Many of the school’s alumni and parents of current Central Catholic students were on hand and made donations to the Sisters as they walked among the crowds. Then the Little Sisters were introduced on to the football field and Sr. Katherine Anne (an Central Catholic Alumnae) was given the honor of doing the official coin toss before the game. The announcer said “Tonight, Central Catholic High School is honoring the Little Sisters of the Poor for the care that they provide to the needy elderly. Joining us for tonights coin toss is Sr. Margaret, Sr. Mary Patricia, Sr. Katherine Anne, and Sr. Mary Timothy. Please give a warm welcome to the Little Sisters of the Poor, and their Residents who are joining us for tonight’s game”.
After the pre-game festivities, the Residents and Sisters were led up to a private suite at Gallagher Stadium to watch the exciting football game. The Fighting Irish of Central Catholic were victorius over the Springfield Blue Devils winning 66-14. The Residents and Sisters had a great time and everyone was so very kind to them. We wish to express our thanks to the Central Catholic Community for all they do to help our Mission of Caring for the Elderly Poor.
