On Wednesday, September 19th the Little Sisters of the Poor hosted their 3rd annual Celebrity Chefs at the Pinnacle event which was attended by 330 guests. This fun filled special event helped generate over $50,000 in support for our Home! This year we had 15 Priests from the Diocese of Toledo who became our “Celebrity Chefs” for the evening. These Priests were split into four teams of Chefs with unique epicurian names; Team Escoffier, Team Le Cordon Bleu, Team Lute’ce, and Team Maxim’s.
Mother Cecilia got the evening off to a fun start by introducing each of the Chef Teams. She had the guests roaring in laughter as she described each Chef’s culinary talent and introduced them to the crowd. Mother Cecilia also thanked our guests for attending and spoke briefly about the need for their support to help the elderly poor. She explained that the Sisters would be circulating through the crowd asking for their support by “picking their pockets”, which drew a round of applause and laughter.
The guests who attended this year had a unique opportunity to interact with the Priests and Sisters at four separate Chef Bars, each serving a different style of cuisine ranging from seafood and pasta, to beef and chicken. After the dinner service was concluded, the Chefs made a special desert of homemade Crepes with chocolate, raspberry, orange caramel, and butter and sugar fillings.
The event also featured a silent auction and the sale of “Mystery Boxes”, each filled with a surprise item valued at either $25 or $50 per box. A high point of the evening for some of our guests was the introduction of a guest photo, which they could have taken with their favorite Celebrity Chef. The guests later commented that they had a great evening and loved getting the photo of themselves with their Priest friends.
One guest later commented that it was “A lovely evening celebrating the gifts the Little Sisters bring to the community and a lot of great fellowship”. We thank all those that attended and are especially grateful to our Celebrity Chef/Priests and their culinary skills, which truly made it a special evening.
