Over the past week we had a group of very energetic and hardworking youth volunteering here at the Sacred Heart Home. Seventeen high school age youth and four chaperones from the Catholic Heart Workcamp came to our Home to give service by helping us with many projects such as cleaning up our building and grounds, working indoors and repairing needed items, and visiting with our Residents.
Catholic Heart Workcamp is a national Catholic organization that involves high school age youth in service projects across the United States. The youth come from all over the country and work for 4 weeks during the summer months giving service to others. They are assigned into teams and are sponsored through a Diocese or home Parish, and invited across the county by organizations like the Little Sisters of the Poor to give a week of service.
The Mission of the Catholic Heart Workcamp is twofold…
“To share the love of Christ as we serve the neglected, brokenhearted and the marginalized in any way needed. Equally, to inspire participants to live as disciples of Christ through serving others as a way of life; and to foster the Catholic Faith of each participant through the sacraments , prayer and involvement in social service”.
In addition to the many projects these young people did for our Home, they also shared their wonderful youthful spirit with our Residents, which brought many smiles to their faces. We thank these young people for all they have done for us and look forward to their return next summer. We pray that their experience with us has broadened their understanding of the aged and given them memories of service that will stay with them for a life time. The Little Sisters affirm the Catholic Heart Workcamp youth in their devotion to service and bettering the lives of others.
