On July 22nd we hosted our annual golf outing to benefit the Sacred Heart. This year’s outing was held at Eagles Landing in Oregon and included 88 golfers. Even though the event was halted and then cancelled mid-day due to severe weather, all the participants had a wonderful time. Golfers were treated to a lunch of “Brats on the Go” as they geared up to start their afternoon of golf. After most golfers had achieved nine complete holes of golf, the weather turned for the worse and lightening was seen striking the course. Everyone made a rush for the clubhouse and all made it to safety just before the sky opened in a downpour.
After coming in off the links, it was announced that each golf foursome should send a representative to the check in area to see what door prizes they may have won. To their surprise, each foursome of golfers received a prize! No one went home empty handed. Some golfers took advantage of a lull in the thunderstorm to call it a day, while others stayed for raffle prize drawings. Dinner was then served earlier than planned and the golfers were treated to chicken and barbeque ribs prepared by the food service staff of the Sacred Heart Home.
Many of the remaining golfers commented on the fun they had even though the weather didn’t cooperate. This golf outing is especially noted for its casual atmosphere and a chance to socialize with the Little Sisters. Golfers were especially positive about the opportunity to come together and donate in a fun way to such a worthwhile cause. Thanks go out to the volunteer planning committee who did an excellent job of organizing this year’s event. All proceeds went towards the care of the Residents at the Sacred Heart Home. We look forward to hosting the golf outing again next year and having a sunnier—rain free day in which to hold the event.
