Recently our Advisory Board for the Sacred Heart Home held a special “Board Retreat and Planning Session”, which was led by our Board Chair, Mr. Bill Mueller. This “Board Retreat” was an opportunity for members to learn more about the Mission of the Little Sisters and discuss challenges we face in the future. A guest speaker from the accounting firm of Plante & Moran presented an informative session on “Nursing Home Challenges” and our board members discussed with the Sisters ways they could help the Sacred Heart Home remain viable and strong into the future. With changes coming soon with implementation of the Affordable Care Act, Board members learned of pending changes to Medicare and Medicaid, which may affect future Resident care. The group held a planning session directed by Bill Mueller, which looked at ideas for consideration related to revenue, development, programs and expenses at the Home. Many good and very creative ideas were generated and presented to the Sisters for consideration.
The day’s program also included liturgy celebrated by Rev. Dan Zak, who has been a close friend of the Sisters, and whose Father was a Resident of the old Sacred Heart Home on Navarre Ave. Fr. Dan offered the Mass in honor of St. Jeanne Jugan and shared in his homily that the Little Sisters Mission Statement embodied God’s instructions for all of us on how to care for one another. He quoted the Mission Statement “to offer the neediest of every race and religion a Home where they will be welcomed as Christ, cared for as family and accompanied with dignity until God calls them to himself”. Fr. Dan emphasized to the Board members present how the Sisters hospitality, shown to all they encounter, is the hallmark of their order.
This “Board Retreat” would not have been possible if it were not for the hospitality of Lynn Anderson and the Anderson family who hosted the event on their property at the Anderson Complex. The Sisters and Board members are very grateful to the Andersons for all they do to help support the Sacred Heart Home.
