The feast of the Sacred Heart is a very special day here at the Sacred Heart Home. Our activities department transformed the cloister area into a French bistro they called “ Chez Jeanne”, in honor of St. Jeanne Jugan — foundress of the Little Sisters. The Residents from our nursing care, assisted living, and independent living apartments all shared a special luncheon together.
Café music played in the background, while the Sisters and staff members waited on our Residents and took their order of either Orange roughy or Swiss steak. We even served wine or sparkling juice to everyone with their meals, and for dessert they enjoyed a special cream filled éclair. These extra touches by the Sisters and staff mean so much to our Residents and help to make their days with us happy ones.
The biggest surprise of the day was at the luncheon, when the Residents, represented by the Resident Council, presented the Sisters with a surprise donation! The Residents had held fundraisers throughout the past year and saved up $1,000, which they wanted to donate to the Sisters for the Home. This was a touching gesture of generosity by the Residents that the Sisters were very grateful and humbled to receive.
