“What a great day for golf” were the first words uttered by one of the many golfers as they checked in at the annual Little Sisters golf outing held July 13th at Eagles Landing Golf Club. The day did not dissapoint, as the weather was beautiful and the golfers really enjoyed the new morning start for the golf outing. 30 foursomes registered for this years outing and we were joined by 116 golfers, making this are largest golf outing in recent years.
As the golfers lined up in their carts, Mother Cecilia gave a welcoming cheer and thanked everyone for attending. Then she started the event with a blow of the bullhorns siren, sending 56 carts on the way to their first tee. Many of our golfers were loyal supporters of the Little Sisters, some even from multiple generations. One such family, headed by Jim Richard, Sr., had four generations of golfers present in support of the Sacred Heart Home. Many retired Priests also rounded out the field and retired Bishop Robert Donnelly enjoyed the day golfing with his little brother, Rev. Marty Donnelly. Even some Oblates of St. Francis de Sales were seen burning up the links, as everyone enjoyed the new and imporved Eagles Landing Golf course.
After a wonderful 5 hours of golf, our guests came back to the newly air conditioned club house and enjoyed a delicious lunch of barbeque chicken and ribs prepared by our own food service staff here at the Home. While the tired golfers refreshed themselves, we gave prizes to each and every foursome, making sure no one went home empty handed. Awards were made for longest putt, longest drives, closest to the pin and a special new closest to the hole contest on a 19th hole. The winning foursome this year with a score of 16 under par for 56 overall went to Ed Durivage and his team of Jon Kerl, Eric Sharer, and Jason Dzierwa. The Sisters were so please to have Ed, who has been a loyal supporter of the Home for many years, win the 1st place prize for the outing.
Our thanks goes out to our fantastic team of loyal volunteers, who helped plan this event for the last several months; Mr.Mrs. Ron and Roni Zak, Mr. Mrs. Val and Nan Zawisza, Mrs. Elaine Raglow, Mr. John Carroll, and Rev. Chuck Denny. Each gave of their talents and energy helping to raise sponsors, sign up golfers and secure prizes for our golfers. Also, a big thank you to the Long Family, new owners of Eagles Landing, for their hand on efforts in making this year’s outing a great success. We appreciate all these volunteers do for us and look forward to next years annual golf outing.
